Tokyo is a relatively new city - coming into being in 1868. Its predecessor, Edo, on the other hand was around for several hundred years before the Meiji Restoration of 1867. Remnants few and far between remain, but on this walking tour with local guide and long-time editor and writer on Japanese culture, Mark Buckton, that history will be brought to life in the Asakusa and Ueno areas around Senso-ji, Ueno Park, Ameyoko-cho, and a few places not listed on many maps - before we venture down to the always buzzing world famous Akihabara Electric Town district - home of the latest and greatest in Japanese electronics, maid cafes, and more neon than can be found in most other cities nationwide.
