Away from the hustle and bustle in Tabanan regency (West Bali), there is a village named Jatiluwih, whose name can be traced to the words Jati and Luwih, meaning "real beauty". The Tabanan people in the area are mostly rice farmers, especially in Jatiluwih village, which is known to have a very extensive expanse of rice fields and stakes its claim as the rice storage center of Bali. Jatiluwih is currently the largest rice field in Bali that has been certified by UNESCO as organic. It is also famous for its water irrigation systems, which we will talk about on this trip. In this calm green space, you will get to enjoy air unpolluted by factories and exhaust fumes from motor vehicles. Along the way to Jatiluwih, we will pass through several local villages and witness the locals as they practice their daily customs. Walking across the Jatiluwih rice fields will take about 3 hours, with stops along the way to learn to identify wild herb plants. We will also cross the river where you can dip your legs into the fresh water. Bring your camera to enjoy the scenery and take a photo as a souvenir. I will point out the plants used in Bali traditional medicines and allow you to learn to identify them by sight, smell and taste. At our rest stop, I will also invite you to taste the red rice tea (supposed to improve your stamina) while you enjoy unforgettable views of the country side.
