The second Disneyland Park of Asia truly lives up to its hype. It promises an otherworldly adventure for the entire family and leaves adults and children mesmerized with its non-stop action, incredible attractions, outstanding adventures and larger-than-life experience. The park might seem like an infant in front of its larger and older cousins, but despite feeling cramped in comparison (if you define 55 acres as being cramped up), it still manages to offer just about everything you’d want in your favorite Disney adventure.
And if you have enough time, why not get a 2-day ticket to explore every corner of the park? It's amazing value for an extra day of Disney magic.
Choose from Seven Fantasy-Driven Realms
Adventureland introduces you to the jungle, letting you journey into the wild. This is where you get to climb Tarzan’s tree house or explore the wild experiences in store for you in the River of Adventure. If all that water makes you feel like taking a dip, head over to Liki Tikis, a place where you get splash to the beats of the jungle.
One of the things that come to mind while discussing adventure is the Wild West, and you’re sure to have your fill of the classic western adventure at Grizzly Gulch, a realm that is full of mining mountains, geysers, runaway cars and a county jail!
Fantasyland is all about magic, fairies and immersing into your favorite Disney tales. Fairy Tale Forest and its living storybooks look like they’ve literally been transported from the kingdom of your dreams. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh lets you wander through Hundred Acre Wood, reliving tales of your favorite honey-eating bear. Mickey’s Philhar Magic is a 3D concert featuring numerous Disney characters. And of course, the trademark Sleeping Beauty castle is there for all your ooh and aah moments.
Talking about Magic, you’d want to visit Mystic Point, a land driven by an exotic forest, supernatural occurrences and a mysterious mansion. The Garden of Wonder is full of 3D illusions while Mystic Manor presents the coming to life of exotic artifacts from all over the world. Right across the manor lies the Freight Depot, where you get to pose for the perfect photos besides undiscovered items such as the bas-relief of Isis, a carving of Mayan King Pacal and Poseidon’s head.
After you’ve had your share of mystery, adventure and fantasy, Tomorrowland takes you into the future with the iconic Star Wars Command Post and Hyperspace Mountain. Psst. You might meet some of the greatest heroes from the Star Wars saga here. Other futuristic adventures to look forward to include Orbitron and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
In between all that excitement, don’t forget to play with Woody and Buzz at Toy Story Land. Remember that scene when they all drop into a huge pile of garbage? Well you can enjoy a similar experience as you drop from the sky with Toy Soldiers, only this time in a parachute. You even get to ride Slinky Dog while he’s busy chasing his tail.
Finally, Disneyland would never be complete without Main Street USA, home to the Animation Academy, Art of Animation and turn-of-the-century vehicles.
Disney Turns to Asia
Unlike most other parks, you’ll notice that the Chinese culture is quite prevalent here. The number 4 is considered to be quite unlucky in China, hence none of the elevators here have that number. Asian food and styles are quite common in restaurants so expect your hamburgers to turn out to be a soy burger instead of the regular beef ones. You’ll also find that all performances and shows are offered in Cantonese, Chinese as well as English.
Iron Man Joins the Party
Disneyland Hong Kong is the latest theme park to cash in on the Iron Man craze. The Iron Man Experience is expected to debut soon, and there’s a Marvel-themed area that is slated to open soon as well. The Iron Man Experience takes you a fascinating adventure to popular city landmarks such as the Tsing Ma Bridge and the harborfront alongside Iron Man while fighting the forces of Hydra.
Ni hao Mickey. Ni hao Minnie. Until we meet again!
