Go on a Gion Night Walk, Kyoto

Go on a Gion Night Walk, Kyoto I actually speak Japanese fluently and visit every year, but it was my first time in Kyoto and my boyfriend's first time in Japan. We decided very last minute to book this tour (2 days before tour date) since it had great reviews, and luckily, Niall accepted our request. We immediately saw a couple of geishas. One must have just been grocery shopping and another was walking back into the dormitory. We saw another 2 or 3 throughout the night. It was really nice to just be led and learn and explore after days of planning and getting ourselves to different locations. Niall was super friendly and easy to be around. We hit all the big spots of Kyoto. I loved walking through all the cobblestone roads and seeing the laterns at night. He took pictures of us and thats when we realized that we barely had any pictures of the two of us throughout our whole trip! We visited some temples as well and ended the night at a Izakaya. It was super delicious!! Niall ended up recommending this bar to us that we went to after, and the whole night turned out to be pretty epic. I can't wait to come back to Kyoto! Thank you Niall for helping us fall in love with it.

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour Though my review is a little bit late, I will always remember our gracious host and guide Niall. He made sure our family understood the roots of Japanese culture and the significance of the places we were visiting. Albeit, it was not easy for him managing a family of 5 with 2 senior citizens and also having a child - managing expectations and varying personalities can be taxing for guides. Overall, very good tour - take the morning tour so you veer away from the crowds. Just a note, the walk back to the train station from Arashiyama is far - would suggest taking a rikshaw or other form especially when with elderly or kids.

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour My daughter and I really enjoyed this tour of Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove with our guide Eric. Eric regaled us with interesting stories of Japanese history and lore as we made our way through Kyoto. It was quite a bit of walking for us but I know it can't be helped to get to some of these sites. So glad that Eric recommended going at 6 am because we were really able to enjoy the sites with few crowds. Arigato gozaimasu, Eric!

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour

See the morning freshness of Kyoto in an early bird tour Eric was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable about Japanese history. He was a gracious host and asked how we wanted to structure the day and how much time we wanted to spend at each event. We were fortunate to have only the two of us on the tour!
