The Maratha empire had spread its wings from the Sahayadri range in the western Ghats to Attack, the north west frontier of the country. Detailed Tour Itinerary DAY 1: Arrival in Sawantwadi Upon arrival at your home­stay in Sawantwadi, you will be warmly welcomed by your Indian host family with a traditional garland and tikka. Your hosts will then assist you with the registration procedure and show you to your room. Upon settling in you will be taken around the home­stay property and given the opportunity to meet and mingle with your host family. After getting to know one another you will have a delicious lunch together. After lunch you can rest for a while. After your afternoon tea, you can visit the palace. Sawantwadi Palace is the seat of the royal family of Bhosale. The family traces its antecedents to Shivaji, the Great Maratha warrior. You will be meeting the Queen, Smt Satvashila raje Bhosale. You can go around the palace grounds, visit the in-­house museum and darbar hall. Later , you can take a walk in the market and head back to your homestay. DAY 2: Sindhudurg Fort Wake up and enjoy the warmth of a home made Indian breakfast prepared caringly by your host family. Today you will visit the Sindhudurg fort, the only fort to have been built in the middle of the sea. It’s a wonder. You will be taken down the history lane. Sindhudurg Fort stands as a testimonial to Shivaji, The great Maratha warrior’s vision and foresightedness. You will head back to the homestay for a late lunch. Evening at leisure. DAY 3: Vijaydurgh Fort and Girye Today you will have the opportunity to visit yet another Fort. Vijaydurgh was captured by Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior from the Siddhis. This fort is 850 years old. Its a beautiful fort by the sea and is a proud testimonial of valour. Lunch will be in a mango orchard on the way back to the homestay. You can have relaxed evening at your homestay. DAY 4: Departure from Sawantwadi Today you can sleep in and wake up to have a relaxed breakfast with your host family. After you finish your meal it will be time to pack up your belongings, say your goodbyes to your gracious host family and depart for your onward journey home, surely with many wonderful memories from your trip.
