While known as housing the cheapest accommodation in Hong Kong, Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon is in fact a fascinating melting pot unique to Hong Kong, featuring guesthouses, curry restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and foreign exchange offices among other establishments. As a large gathering place for some of the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, particularly South Asians (Indians, Nepalese, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans), Middle Eastern people, Nigerians, Europeans, Americans, and many other peoples of the world, it has been estimated that people from at least 120 different nationalities pass through Chungking Mansions in one years. With this lively mix of guest workers, mainlanders, local Chinese, tourists and backpackers, the Chungking neighbourhood is one of the most culturally diverse locations in Hong Kong, and it would be a shame to leave Hong Kong without paying a visit to this local landmark (where I used to be a resident when I first arrived in Hong Kong) Come and experience the heart of the immigrant community in Hong Kong, and learn about the fascinating stories of this storied place (once featured in Wong Kar-wai's film of the same name). We will also stop for lunch at one of the best Pakistani restaurants in the building for some delicious food!
