JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan The 14 day JR Pass exceeded our expectations. Very very useful. We did have some trouble figuring out which platform to use at times, but Japanese people are so kind and helpful we always got there eventually.

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan If you plan on some inter-city travel in Japan then the expense of the pass is quickly recovered, if you use the Shinkansen which I certainly recommend. An extra benefit of being able to use local JR trains for free was just a bonus to me, but not to be sniffed at!

Wear Kimono & Enjoy Tea Ceremony at Gero Onsen Gassho-mura

Wear Kimono & Enjoy Tea Ceremony at Gero Onsen Gassho-mura The kimono and tea ceremony experience.
The traditional village was wonderfully secluded from the outside making it not overcrowded with tourists.
The kimono instructor was very kind and offered many suggestions. So the experience of wearing the kimono in the scenic village was an one of a kind experience.
Besides the village there are many other spots to visit within the vicinity. Gero is a destination worth making the trip to.

Japanese Knife-Making with Certified Swordsmith in Gifu Pref

Japanese Knife-Making with Certified Swordsmith in Gifu Pref For me anyway, most tourist attractions are a "one-direction" experience.. you're a passive observer for most things other than rides etc.

This was a large chunk of the day and I had a blast making the knife. I knew nothing about metals coming into it and learned so much even though it was a relatively basic project.

Even with the initial template metal pre-done, there was tons of hammering, heating, bending to make it one of a kind. Super happy. In fact, I did this as a gift for someone close to me, but **I** want the knife as I was so involved in making the thing! haha!! So, for that... it's now a more special gift.

I'd recommend bringing a few bottles of water and a change of clothes. It gets HOT. You will sweat. You will around smoke from the forge and tempering process. You pobably won't want to smell like that on the Shinkansen back to Tokyo ;)

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan An absolute must for exploring the cities of Japan. We got our voucher just a few days after ordering, and had no trouble at all using the pass to see Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Himeji. Pretty awesome.

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan

JR Pass – Unlimited Rail Travel across Japan My friend and I decided to buy this pass because it included our shinkansen routes. Just note, if you plan to travel between Tokyo and other major cities during peak travel times (especially Friday evening leaving Tokyo), then I recommend planning ahead and reserving seats. We ended up waiting on the platform a while to get a seat, because a few trains were fully booked.
