Make your own Samurai Knife with a Certified Swordsmith! I am so happy that I choose to do this experience with Master Taro he and his apprentices are very patient and show so much approval for you and your work throughout the process you can tell how loving they are working with you they won't let you get hurt or leave with a bad knife

Make your own Samurai Knife with a Certified Swordsmith!

Make your own Samurai Knife with a Certified Swordsmith! My husband and I both participated in a session with Taro making our own knives. The experience was absolutely amazing as we actually got to participate in all steps of the knife making/forging process. Taro was so helpful in explaining the techniques we should use for each step and provided perfect guidance along the way. His hospitality throughout the entire experience was amazing and I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Make your own Samurai Knife with a Certified Swordsmith!

Make your own Samurai Knife with a Certified Swordsmith! Making knives with Taro-san and his apprentices was a dream come true! Getting a chance to work alongside a master (and to see how amazing his skills are) is a rare opportunity. We made our own knives, as Taro-san quietly and patiently guided us through the process. It is well worth the trip out. Ask him about his philosophy - and how he is modernizing the world of sword making.

You can see more of his studio's and visiting students' work on Instagram with the hashtag: #kniveswithtaro. Check it out!

Note: We came from Osaka (~2 hours by car/train) and it was so worth it.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan I highly recommend taking the JR from Tokyo to Kyoto and exploring Arashiyama and Nara as well as the Temples and Shrines in Kyoto. Arashiyama features the bamboo forest and the Iwatayama Monkey Park . Nara is outstanding with the parks, gardens, temples, and above all, the deer. Apparently my Suica IC card fell out of my pocket while on the Shinkansen. I reported it to the JR lost and found office in Kyoto Station and the next day it was returned to me, completely charged. I was astounded. They were also very helpful with Kyoto map and teaching me how to take the bus to my hotel.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan The best way to travel extensively around Japan. We not only used our unlimited Japan Rail pass to travel between Tokyo and Kyoto, but also around both cities conveniently. So convenient and affordable.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan The 14 day JR Pass exceeded our expectations. Very very useful. We did have some trouble figuring out which platform to use at times, but Japanese people are so kind and helpful we always got there eventually.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan If you plan on some inter-city travel in Japan then the expense of the pass is quickly recovered, if you use the Shinkansen which I certainly recommend. An extra benefit of being able to use local JR trains for free was just a bonus to me, but not to be sniffed at!
