Looking for Things to Do in Winter in Japan? Discover and book a unique experience to create an unforgettable stay in Japan!

Japan is a popular ski destination in winter. Top-quality ski resorts such as Hakuba, Niseko and Gala Yuzawa attract plenty of foreign travelers every year. Hokkaido is particularly interesting for its unique winter activities such as drift ice walk in Shiretoko, crane watching and smelt fishing in Kushiro. In the opposite part of Japan – Okinawa – this is the best season to go on whale watching and experience farm work. However, one of the highlights of winter remains soaking in an open-air onsen hot spring amidst the snow and that is exactly what the popular Snow Monkeys do in Nagano!

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa!

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa! Once you get off the bullet train, you are already in the snow resort!
    How convenient is that!!
I would suggest to book as early as possible to secure your seat especially if you are considering there on weekend. We couldn't get seats on the way from Tokyo Station.

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa!

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa! First timer here!

Decided to book and go for snowboarding in Gala Yuzawa even though I had zero previous experiencea in threading the snow, and it was mindblowing! So much fun (and so much pain -- physically)!

The place is conveniently located, not so far from Tokyo and is oh so beautiful! Lots of courses with varying level of difficulties, some of which are designed specifically to target first timer like me. And with the classes that is offered, I was able to catch up and learn how to slide after a few hours of faceplanting drops..

Oh, and the view is so breathtaking!

Whale watching tour in Okinawa with a high-speed boat!

Whale watching tour in Okinawa with a high-speed boat! The email confirmation and the website state its 3 hours, we left the dock at 130 and we docked back by 3pm. We did get to see a couple of whales which was fun but it was definitely disappointing to end early. Thanks..

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa!

Ski day trip to a top ski resort near Tokyo, Gala Yuzawa! Gala Yuzawa is a very convenient ski/snowboard trip from Tokyo. It takes around one and a half hours by bullet train from Tokyo Station. Once you arrive at Gala Yuzawa, the reception of the ski resort is already at the station. We went there during a very crowded weekend but since the resort is huge with a lot of courses and lifts, it is still very easy to wonder around and you will not waste your time falling in line.

The ski resort has a lot of courses for beginners. I was able to learn how to snowboard in a day. After skiing or snowboarding, there is a hot spring in the resort where you can rest and rejuvenate your tired muscles.

Overall, it was a worthwhile trip. Highly recommended!
