    Japanese Calligraphy in Tokyo

Japanese Calligraphy in Tokyo Waki met me at the Kaminarimon and the class was held in a very cozy bar in Asakusa (not open to the public at the moment). Her ability with the brushes is impressive and I enjoyed watching her writing as much as practising. She is very nice and a gentle teacher. We started with the different types of strokes, which I could practice by writing my name that she had translated to Kanji for me. After a lot of practise she helped me find a message ("do your best") that I wrote on a big cardboard that I have brought back home. I have always been interested in calligraphy, but it was my first attempt at shodo, and I was very happy with the lesson. Waki was great answering all my questions and showing the right way to perform each stroke. I did really enjoy the lesson and I think it is a great introduction to the beautiful world of Japanese calligraphy.

Create your own Unique Souvenir: Japanese Calligraphy

Create your own Unique Souvenir: Japanese Calligraphy Nice experience and the teacher is nice and friendly. This was perfect for creating some presents for friends and family back home. The place itself is a little difficult to find, so I suggest you make sure that you have google map access.

Create your own Unique Souvenir: Japanese Calligraphy

Create your own Unique Souvenir: Japanese Calligraphy Great teacher, very patient - clearly has taught calligraphy for some time and knows her stuff! My only disappointment was that I didn't get the souvenir I actually wanted and paid for. I wanted the bell, but had to settle for a fan as that was the only option [afterI had arrived]. Her house isn't easy to find though - I was significantly helped by google maps. I dread to think where I'd have ended up without internet!!

Create an original work of Japanese calligraphy (shodo)

Create an original work of Japanese calligraphy (shodo) We only created our work, not doing the lecture about shodo
Our teacher kento was informative and patient as he teached us the correct brush and style techniques to create our work. We discussed on the days leading up to the lesson on what subject or words we wanted giving us great suggestions. Helping us create something personal
Even showed us how to sign our name in kanji :D

Was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone
