Tour Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Tour Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site This was a tour that we’ve never experienced before! Toko was our lovely guide & was very informative about everything in the temple & moss gardens. The scripture writing & chanting inside the temple was an awesome experience to do. Would definitely recommend doing this!!

Visit Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Visit Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site! very nice garden, the chanting and the writing of the wish prior to entering the garden was also very special. Our guide, Junko, was also very nice, she even prepared English translations of what we were saying, so we could follow along. The experience was very nice and although the entry fee to the garden was highest amongst other gardens in Japan it was not ridiculous and considering the limitations on amount of people and upkeep for the garden and that you also get your own special meditation session, I thought it was worth it. Good experience as part of our Japan trip!

Visit Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Visit Saihō-ji (Moss Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Steve was an absolute pleasure to visit with and went out of his way to help me. He paid for the taxi, took me out for lunch after the temple and showed me around the basement of a department store at all the ornate foods and gifts. He then helped with my travel arrangements to Ohara which is a little out of the way.

The gardens themselves are very unique and well worth a visit.
