Reservation for Teppanyaki Shima Restaurant in Tokyo!

Reservation for Teppanyaki Shima Restaurant in Tokyo! We had a good experience at Shima overall.
We ordered the crab croquette and duck liver terrine (which was more like a pate) to share to begin with, as well as a bottle of French red wine.
The starters were delicious and fairly well priced.
The wine was expensive - 14,000 yen (this was one of the cheapest bottles). There were much much more expensive bottles on offer.
While it was a nice wine, the price was surprising.

We each ordered the sirloin for a main.
The chef cooked one large portion and asked us to cut it in half on our plate. I wasn’t impressed with this.
The steak is 13,000 yen each so I expected an individual piece cooked for each of us. While the steak was cooked well, my half had a fair amount of fat / gristle on the edge, while my partners was much leaner.
The accompanying potato and vegetables with the steak were also very average. The steak is clearly the hero so no effort goes into the sides.

We did also receive complimentary bread / butter and matcha and vanilla ice cream, which was good, not amazing.

I had read of people receiving a complimentary steak sandwich to takeaway at the end, however we discovered you had to pay for this - 4,000 yen (~50USD). Definitely not worth it.

Overall the experience was good but very expensive for what we received. Our bill totalled 52,000 yen.
We saw others only order one starter and one main to share, and no drinks, obviously in an attempt to reduce the cost.
We figured while we were there we may as well have the full experience and enjoy, however I wouldn’t go back, and I also wouldn’t recommend friends to visit.

While the quality of the food is very good, it is overpriced.
You can find equally great quality wagyu or kobe beef at many other teppanyaki restaurants.

Reservation for Teppanyaki Shima Restaurant in Tokyo! I think we could have gotten into the place without a reservation. The restaurant itself is very expensive and good food but IMO it's overpriced.

Reservation for Teppanyaki Shima Restaurant in Tokyo!

Reservation for Teppanyaki Shima Restaurant in Tokyo! My son and I had trouble finding Shima and arrived a few minutes late. The entire staff was very understanding and chef Oshima Manabu personally requested that we sit at one of the counter seats.

We were able to watch chef Manabu and his amazing team work all night long. It was tremendous spectacle and we were also rewarded with chef Manabu's absolutely remarkable charm and friendliness.

Everything we ate at Shima was outstanding but, of course, the star was the delicious, sumptuous, buttery-soft fillet which truly ranks as a "bucket-list" experience.

Reserving through Voyagin was easy and very effiicent. Dining at Shima was truly a great experience. We are looking forward to our next visit.

A hearty "domo origato" to chef Oshima Manabu and his entire extremely professional and friendly staff!
