Freediving is sweeping across the globe and is an exciting, challeniging, and liberating way to enjoy the ocean and its many treasures. Freediving is diving without the use of breathing equipment (SCUBA), simply holding ones breath in a relaxed state and swimming underwater to explore the sunken depths. Bali is famous for its marine life and sunken treasures off its coast at relatively shallow depts which provide the perfect environment for people to freedive and enjoy them. === More about Tulamben and the USAT Liberty === During World War II, the USAT Liberty was torpedoed by the Japanese while transporting cargo between Australia and the Philippines. While the Americans attempted to tow her to the Bali's north shore for repairs, she was taking on too much water and was beached in Tulamben in order to salvage its cargo. More than 20 years later, President Sukarno ordered the most important of Balinese Hindu rituals, the Eka Dasa Rudra (which only happens once every 100 years), to take place early. Agung started to rumble and priests claimed that was a bad omen from the Gods that the wrong year had been selected. However, Sukarno ordered the events to go ahead. In 1963, Agung erupted and the tremors associated with its eruption caused the USAT Liberty to slip off the beach onto a sand slope, and she now lies in 30 to 100 feet of water, providing one of the most beautiful dives off the coast of Bali. The Liberty wreck is now covered in soft corals, anemone and thousands of tropical fish that have made a home out of this old ship and make it one of the most enjoyable freediving destinations for you! === More about the Course === During this course you can achieve the Level 1 SSI Freediver International Certification – it’s your first step on an internationally recognized pathway as an independent freediver!
