설명

The tallest peak in Hong Kong is Tai Mo Shan, towering at 962 meters high above Tsuen Wan to the south, and Tai Po to the north-east. This mountain, with its steep slopes, also boasts herds of feral cows grazing as well as Hong Kong's tallest waterfall - the Main Fall of the Ng Tung Chai cascade of waterfalls with a 30-meter free fall. The tour starts at Tsuen Wan MTR station, from where we take a taxi to our starting point, the highest point of Route Twisk, and about halfway up the mountain. Hiking from there along a scenic route, first a dirt track and later a paved road, we steadily climb up, enjoying the sweeping views along the way. The summit itself can not be reached as a wireless station has been built up there. From the top we continue slowly down towards Sze Fung Shan, until we turn left to the steep path down to the Ng Tung Chai waterfalls. There are a total four large falls in this cascade, the highest being the Scatter Fall, the Main Fall, the Middle Fall and finally the Bottom Falls. Finally we hike down via Man Tak Yuen, a Buddhist monastery, and Ng Tung Chai village to Lam Kam Road from where we take transport back to Tai Wo MTR station. This hike takes about five hours, and includes some steep ascents and descents running over mostly well maintained trails. Proper footwear is a must. The total ascent is about 500m as the starting point of the hike is halfway up the mountain.
