JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan Our 7-day JR Pass was worth it because we went to Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima during our trip. The vouchers were sent to our hotel and we exchanged them for our JR passes at a listed exchange office. Everything went smoothly. To use, just show the attendant your pass at JR ticket gates, to go through. The pass cannot be used on the fastest shinkansens--Nozomi or Mizuho, but that's not a big deal. Some shinkansens need you to reserve a seat. Most shinkansens should have cars/sections for reserved and non-reserved seating. I'd recommend reserving a seat for long distance travel. Just need to go to a ticket office and get one.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan Fantastic pass to get around between the cities. We went from Tokyo to Osaka, Nara and Kyoto before rounding back to Tokyo. Using your pass was mere walk up to a manned ticket counter and briefly showing your pass to the attendant to be let through. Keep in mind however that the JR Pass is for the trains NOT the subway. This also means only the JR brand train network + most of the shinkansen (bullet trains). This should be perfectly enough for your public transport depending on your accomodation since it travels to most major points. However we had a couple nights stay where the subway was more convenient so metro tickets became an extra expense.

Get this pass and choose your accomodation based on the location of THEIR train stations.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan I highly recommend taking the JR from Tokyo to Kyoto and exploring Arashiyama and Nara as well as the Temples and Shrines in Kyoto. Arashiyama features the bamboo forest and the Iwatayama Monkey Park . Nara is outstanding with the parks, gardens, temples, and above all, the deer. Apparently my Suica IC card fell out of my pocket while on the Shinkansen. I reported it to the JR lost and found office in Kyoto Station and the next day it was returned to me, completely charged. I was astounded. They were also very helpful with Kyoto map and teaching me how to take the bus to my hotel.
