Hi! I'm Maria Tanikawa, Nihonga artist.
I flew to New York to brush up my contemporary Nihonga art skills, and I studied, worked there for 7 years. I have been teaching Nihonga classes for many years in NY & Tokyo over 10years.
I would like to invite you to experience my classes held in Tokyo. Nihonga painting is very different from sumi-e ink painting because in Nihonga, we use Japanese pigments for a traditional way of painting. It's not easy to work with the materials, but I can teach my students, even those without prior experience, to have fun and be creative.
Participants will learn how to decorate uchiwa fans and shikishi boards with Nihonga pigments. I am very experienced at teaching foreign students the secrets of Nihonga!
