A foodie Tokyoite and a certified international kikisake-shi (sake sommelier certified to introduce sake to the international audience), I enjoy helping foreign guests discover authentic Japanese cuisine and sake. I have realized that Tokyo is a food paradise, however, exclusively for those who can understand the often uniquely-written menu of each restaurant and the cultural and historical context of various sake available from some 1,200 breweries around Japan.
I have experience presenting sake and giving lectures on sake for pairing with Japanese and western cuisines in and outside Japan. Also, I was previously a Japan correspondent for an international news agency, so I am used to explaining about not just food and sake but also the broader Japanese culture, mentality, and social structures to an international audience.
