JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan I highly recommend taking the JR from Tokyo to Kyoto and exploring Arashiyama and Nara as well as the Temples and Shrines in Kyoto. Arashiyama features the bamboo forest and the Iwatayama Monkey Park . Nara is outstanding with the parks, gardens, temples, and above all, the deer. Apparently my Suica IC card fell out of my pocket while on the Shinkansen. I reported it to the JR lost and found office in Kyoto Station and the next day it was returned to me, completely charged. I was astounded. They were also very helpful with Kyoto map and teaching me how to take the bus to my hotel.

Half-day Morning Walking Tour of Nara from Kyoto by Train

Half-day Morning Walking Tour of Nara from Kyoto by Train Hiro was a fantastic guide! This tour was informative, fun, and relaxed. The built in cost of tickets as well as a couple of short breaks made this casual tour very enjoyable. Hiro was even kind enough to document our tour in photos and send them to us via email! We would strongly recommend it!

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan The best way to travel extensively around Japan. We not only used our unlimited Japan Rail pass to travel between Tokyo and Kyoto, but also around both cities conveniently. So convenient and affordable.

Book Tickets for Events in Japan!

Book Tickets for Events in Japan! I attended the Summer Koshien (national high school baseball tournament) finals. As someone much more familiar with baseball in North America, I can say it was a pretty unique experience. The high school baseball tournament is widely followed in Japan. In some ways, its popularity is similar to that of March Madness college basketball in the US.

Voyagin arranged for my ticket through a third party. It was delivered to my hotel before I arrived, and they provided a map and a translation of of my seat details. Thanks Voyagin for making this really easy!

Half-day Morning Walking Tour of Nara from Kyoto by Train

Half-day Morning Walking Tour of Nara from Kyoto by Train The comfy shoes are for your comfort and you do walk a bit, but that’s not anything new while being in Japan. This is a group tour so yes, there is a time crunch. My tour guide was awesome! She is very informative and gave us the history of the spots we visited. She also gave some leisure time, as much time allowed as it is a tour. It does feel like a brief visit but it is only a half day tour- I still enjoyed it very much. Only negative thing I can say is having to wait for our group to gather; there were some people who would disappear and the guide would have to go find them, which wasted time, and we all ended up rushing back to the station. So please, if you book this tour, please be considerate and understand that it only is half a day and please don’t break away from the group.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan The 14 day JR Pass exceeded our expectations. Very very useful. We did have some trouble figuring out which platform to use at times, but Japanese people are so kind and helpful we always got there eventually.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan If you plan on some inter-city travel in Japan then the expense of the pass is quickly recovered, if you use the Shinkansen which I certainly recommend. An extra benefit of being able to use local JR trains for free was just a bonus to me, but not to be sniffed at!

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan An absolute must for exploring the cities of Japan. We got our voucher just a few days after ordering, and had no trouble at all using the pass to see Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Himeji. Pretty awesome.

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan

JR Pass – 7, 14, or 21 Days Unlimited Rail Travel in Japan My friend and I decided to buy this pass because it included our shinkansen routes. Just note, if you plan to travel between Tokyo and other major cities during peak travel times (especially Friday evening leaving Tokyo), then I recommend planning ahead and reserving seats. We ended up waiting on the platform a while to get a seat, because a few trains were fully booked.
