Description

For this special gathering we'll be hosting our own little rendition of an Amami Island festival as we utilize our taste buds to closely examine a wide selection of 17 varieties of "kokutou shochu", a local shochu made only in the Amami Islands which integrates sweet brown cane sugar into the brewing recipe. It's an all-you-can-drink gathering until the shochu runs out, so we'll be needing a good number of participants – for safety's sake! And as long as we’re "sampling" such a variety, we’ll also be having a little shochu tasting workshop, where you'll have the chance to cultivate your palate for the delicious nuances of one of Japan's most popular local beverages! "What’s a party without music?!", you say? We've got you covered there too, as a pair of local musicians from Kikai Island (one of the Amami Islands!) will be putting on a live "sanshin" performance (similar to the more widely well-known "shamisen"). Come on out and kick back, relax, and absorb the live island tunes and sake for a Saturday afternoon that'll have you feeling like you've been transported to an island far, far away... *Brought to you in cooperation with International TERAKOYA, where the world meets Japan’s fantastic rural cultures and people in the heart of Tokyo!
