The Lion Rock is one of the best recognisable mountain peaks from Hong Kong. Looking from Kowloon or Hong Kong Island to this peak it is easy to recognise the lion shape. This hike takes you up to the head of the lion, which, at 495 metres high, is the best viewpoint of Hong Kong overlooking Kowloon and Hong Kong island to the south, and Sha Tin and Tolo Harbour to the north. From this viewing point, we'll be able to see the nearby Amah Rock, which resembles a woman carrying a child (the story goes that this was a fisherman's wife who stood there every day to see whether her husband came back from the sea, and got struck by lightning and turned into stone) While there are so many options for hiking in Hong Kong, this might be the very best viewpoint in Hong Kong! Come along with me as I bring a group of hikers up to one of my favourite spots!
