Get Suica, the popular prepaid e-money card to get around!

Get Suica, the popular prepaid e-money card to get around! Made travelling on the trains so easy. A must have if your planning on using the trains a lot. Very easy to top up at the train stations if you need to add more money. Easier than buying a ticket each time you want to go somewhere. With the Suica you just tap it as you walk through and tap it when you arrive at your destination and it subtracts the cost of the card. One of the best things we bought.

Take a day trip from Nagoya to Inuyama and see unique sites!

Take a day trip from Nagoya to Inuyama and see unique sites! Yoshi-san is a retired gentleman who takes this tour-guide business seriously - he does his homework and comes prepared with his folder of flyers and information. We went the day walking through various sites in Inuyama, and I'd recommend the side trip to the Tagata shrine for an eye-opener to a uniquely Japanese cultural perspective. Save Meiji-mura for a separate day on its own.

Explore the samurai legacy of Nagoya with a private guide

Explore the samurai legacy of Nagoya with a private guide The itinerary was fairly typical at the key sites but some aspects of the tour may not appeal to all. The little detour to the arcade for some photo-booth fun was interesting but may not appeal to the older traveller. Mayuko-san is an energetic guide who speaks English fairly well but on our trip, she was fairly busy typing away on her phone on many an occasion - some may find this unprofessional, but if you consider it as a day trip with a friend, you probably won't mind so much. The day pass on the subway is a great little bonus and is helpful for local travel for the rest of the day on the subway lines (where your JR pass is moot). On the whole it was alright and I'd recommend it to anyone who'd like an English speaking local guide to show you around.

Enjoy Japanese Home Cooking and Tea Ceremony near Nagoya

Enjoy Japanese Home Cooking and Tea Ceremony near Nagoya One of the things that I think truly makes travel rewarding is when you get away from the typical tourist attractions and spend time with people in normal situations. So ,u wife and I jumped at the opportunity to spend our last evening in Japan with Akiko and her daughter with a tea ceremony and preparing a typical Japanese dinner. Communication with Akiko was great and she met us at the station promptly and took us a short drive to her house. There we met Meg, who led the tea ceremony. Next we helped Akiko in preparing a wonderful meal for the four of us. Great conversation throughout the whole process about anything and everything. Lots of laughs the whole evening. One of Akiko's friends leads a local drum school and we were fortunate enough that they were practicing that evening, so we went there after dinner. It was amazing watching the skill of these young musicians, and the joy they displayed. I even got a little time on the drums with them! Definitely a worthwhile activity if you have the time. All in all, I can not say enough nice things about our evening with Akiko and highly recommend this activity!
