Enjoy a Tea Ceremony with Special Sweets in Kyoto Rie was a wonderful teacher and spoke very good English. My husband and I loved the tea ceremony. If you're going to be at Kinkakuji, this is definitely worth booking since it's so close.

Get Suica, the popular prepaid e-money card to get around!

Get Suica, the popular prepaid e-money card to get around! Made travelling on the trains so easy. A must have if your planning on using the trains a lot. Very easy to top up at the train stations if you need to add more money. Easier than buying a ticket each time you want to go somewhere. With the Suica you just tap it as you walk through and tap it when you arrive at your destination and it subtracts the cost of the card. One of the best things we bought.

Reservation for Kichisen Michelin 3-star Restaurant in Kyoto

Reservation for Kichisen Michelin 3-star Restaurant in Kyoto We went to a few Michelin-star restaurants in both Tokyo and Kyoto and Kichisen was definitely the highlight. My pictures don't do it justice, but presentation and taste-wise, this restaurant is truly deserving of its 3 stars, unlike others we tried. Every single course was presented in a unique way and the ingredients and sake selection were fantastic. English-friendly and welcoming in general. The aesthetics of the place are also beautiful - very Japanese and minimalistic. Truly recommend! We went there for lunch. Next time I'm in Kyoto, I'll definitely go back.

Customise and embark on a Private Half Day Tour in Kansai

Customise and embark on a Private Half Day Tour in Kansai Rie-san was very patient and accommodating. We had to adjust the schedule since we were activating our Jr pass. She even helped us exchange our orders for the pass. Highly recommended!

10% OFF Authentic Kyoto Samurai Experience

10% OFF Authentic Kyoto Samurai Experience Awesome samurai experience! We used an actual katana to cut a tatami mat said to be of the similar resistance to a person's shoulder! And to top it off, the experience was held at what was a samurai's home several generations ago. Still owned by the same family. Our hosts were very friendly and were happy to explain the traditions and answer any questions. The interpreter met us at the metro station which is a 5 minute walk from the house and spoke perfect English. thanks!

Make your own samurai knife with a certified swordsmith!

Make your own samurai knife with a certified swordsmith! I signed up for this course after looking for forging classes in Japan. I have taken some courses in Canada before, and my husband has never taken any. We both took the class and Taro made the experience enjoyable for both of us.

The day began with a description of the knife forging process, and selecting the shape of the knife we would like to make. The morning was spent hammering the knife into a basic shape on the anvil and heating the carbon steel in the forge.

Lunch was prepared by Taro's wife - and was incredible! I won't spoil the details, but suffice to say it was the perfect break after a morning of exertions.

The afternoon was spent further shaping the knife handle and blade, and tempering the knife using the oil technique. We also were shown how to engrave a symbol on the handle that represented our 'mark'.

This was the highlight of our Japan trip. And next time we are there, we would definitely take the class again. Taro is very skilled and has a great sense of humour - don't miss this!

Experience traditional Tsumami-zaiku craft making in Kyoto

Experience traditional Tsumami-zaiku craft making in Kyoto A great class to get introduced to the basics of Tsumami Zaiku-making! It was easy to find the location even on Google Maps. It felt like it was a completely Japanese experience that was offered. Tatamis were laid out throughout the "classroom" and we got to make the Tsumami-zaiku accessories seated on cushions by a low table. It was such an experience :) Even right from the beginning, from the moment you step into the "classroom", you had to remove your shoes (which is so foreign yet so fascinating!).

To top it off, our instructors are so friendly, approachable and hospitable. We were offered drinks that helped ease us in, something we didn't expect. More importantly, the instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is also very helpful that the instructors speak some English! There were examples of accessories already done, so it was easy to pick a design too.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend this activity if you're in Kyoto and you're interested in handicrafts.
