Enjoy an Authentic Tea Ceremony Experience in Kyoto

Enjoy an Authentic Tea Ceremony Experience in Kyoto The operators of the tea ceremony really appear to care about what they are doing and explained each component, as well as why and where the history came from and were more than happy to answer questions. Really worth the effort.

Enjoy Japanese Cooking Class with Friendly Locals in Kyoto

Enjoy Japanese Cooking Class with Friendly Locals in Kyoto We wanted a day to relax and learn how to make Japanese food after too many temples and palaces. The cooking school was in a traditional Japanese house. There were nine people taking the izakaya cooking class that day. We had three instructors and they were very patient and informative. We learned to cook 7 dishes in 3 hours. All of the ingredients and cooking techniques were explained thoroughly. Everything we prepared was fun and delicious. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to learn more about Japanese food and culture.

Take a Koto Lesson at a Traditional House in Kyoto

Take a Koto Lesson at a Traditional House in Kyoto Taking a private koto lesson was the most memorable experience of my whole Japanese vacation. The lesson is in a traditional Japanese house in a neighborhood near Nijo Castle. Harumi was very welcoming and encouraging. Although the lesson lasted only a few hours, I learned a lot. I enjoyed playing koto with Harumi. The highlight was her playing a song at the end of the lesson. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to immerse themselves into Japanese culture.

Make your own samurai knife with a certified swordsmith!

Make your own samurai knife with a certified swordsmith! I'll just start by saying wow.

This was one of the most fun things I've ever done, it was difficult, but incredibly rewarding. Taro is a great teacher- he takes you through the history and process before starting you very slowly. He explains everything thoroughly, and offers great tips. Working so closely with him was a pleasure (The lunch his wife cooks is also delicious)!

You get to work with raw materials, as well as use his forge that is 100 years old. He's very steeped in the traditions and knowledgable.

He works closely with you to achieve whatever look of knife you want to make. They take photos of you and print them to take with you, so you get some cool action shots of hammering.

At the end you feel really accomplished, also a bit sore, but mostly accomplished. I highly recommend this experience. It's just so freaking interesting, unique and special. It's super freaking cool, my friend and I were both elated we had the chance to do this, and we can't recommend it enough. If you have the chance to do it, I'd do it.

10% OFF Authentic Kyoto Samurai Experience

10% OFF Authentic Kyoto Samurai Experience If you love Samurai, this will easily be the highlight of your trip! Not only do you have the opportunity to see a grand champion in action, he will instruct you on how to use a real sword personally! Both the instructor and interpreter were very gracious. I was also very excited and happy that they accepted our request even on New Years Day!

I would say more, but I think it is better if you try it for yourself. If you're in Kyoto, even for just a day, don't miss this!
