[PR] Aizu, the land of traditional crafts and rural lifestyle

There are many secluded places in rural Japan that retain the primordial spirit of a bygone era long forgotten, yet still very much alive in its sleepy arcadian surroundings. These hidden gems of complete harmony between pristine nature and well-preserved traditional culture are usually located in remote regions where modernity has restrained itself from its usual sweeping absorption.

Get Aizu sightseeing bus tickets and attraction tickets!

Get Aizu sightseeing bus tickets and attraction tickets! Visiting Aizu for our Golden Week trip is one of the best decisions we made. The city is facinating. It is a beautiful city and its colourful history makes it more appealing. Exploring Aizu using the one-day pass and attraction tickets is very convenient.

2-day tour: See the magical snow-covered Ouchijuku at night

2-day tour: See the magical snow-covered Ouchijuku at night Unfortunately there was no snow so the expected view would not have been possible. I pointed this out at the start before we set off and requested to have the trip postponed to a day trip instead. I was really really thankful and impressed when the taxi company agreed to do so and I had a great experience at Ouchijuku. The representative who spoke to me was very patient even with my broken Japanese. What made it even more memorable is the impeccable service of the taxi driver who brought me there in the morning and his kindness. A very big thank you!! Mr taxi driver is the one with umbrella in the first photo ! Please kindly pass my gratitude to these 3 gentlemen. The first taxi driver, the representative and the 2nd taxi driver. And also thanks to Govoyagin for patience when answering my queries.cheers! kc

Enjoy the traditional culture and hot springs of Aizu region

Enjoy the traditional culture and hot springs of Aizu region Wow, I am SO glad I booked this tour. I'm not even sure where to begin...our guides were amazing, the shopping was fantastic, the sights were beautiful and interesting, and the food was delicious. Also - we were in the local newspaper! It was printed after we left Aizu, but a resident of Aizu MAILED IT TO US IN TOKYO! It was so very kind. Really, I don't think anything like this will ever happen to us again.

I would definitely recommend going to Aizu and getting a guided tour. This was the first tour like this there and I think it went very well, but I can only imagine they will improve with practice. The Tōhoku region is totally worth visiting, especially Aizu. :)

Enjoy the traditional culture and hot springs of Aizu region

Enjoy the traditional culture and hot springs of Aizu region Aizu is living in history. In comparison, Kyoto is more like a type of museum. I strongly recommended going to Aizu to see the history of Japan being very much alive.
In particular, Sazae-do pagoda was very unique!
Harataki Ryokan was also quite comfortable. The staff was very friendly.
