He moved to Hanoi in 2008, and is a strong speaker of Vietnamese, as well as having fluency in French and English.

Organiser Alex Sheal has spent the majority of the past ten years travelling and working in Asia. He is fluent in Vietnamese and has appeared on VTV many times to discuss topics as various as Tet, Ethnic Minority Love Markets and travel in Vietnam.
