Probably your biggest surprise here. It isn't. Not if one is into cycling, that is. Riding a bicycle is a very comfortable way of getting about in a tropical environment. When cycling, you always feel a slight breeze to cool you down a bit. Walking is a much hotter activity. When you walk, you don't create a slight breeze as you do whilst cycling. Besides, Bangkok is as flat as a pancake. No steep slopes to climb anywhere.
What kind of clothing should I wear?
We recommend a baseball cap. Or a hat to keep the sun out of your face. Light cotton clothing is very good.
We would prefer you to wear 'closed' shoes (as opposed to sandals), but absolutely do not recommend slippers.
Should I bring drinking water?
Don't. We will take care of that. It's an all inclusive tour.
What about the strong sun?
Thailand is very close to the equator. The sun is quite strong here, true enough. That's why we recommend to wear something on your head. Like a baseball cap or a hat. Sunglasses are a good idea, and so is applying a strong sun-block.
Isn't it possible to ride a bicycle during the wet season?
First of all Thailand doesn't really have a 'wet' or monsoon season. We do have a rainy period though. Most of the time you will experience dry sunny weather.
Our 20 years ofexperience tells us that most rain falls in the evening or the night. We have never cancelled a tour because of rain in those 20 years.
Besides, rain can be a very local affair here: it might rain next to your hotel, and be dry all day long where we do the tour.
If it does rain, it usually doesn't rain very long. Short showers last anything from 10 minutes to a half an hour. If it starts raining, we will seek shelter and during the rainy season our guides always have ponchos available. For us, every day of the year is excellent cycling weather!
Can I take pictures or videotape everywhere?
Nobody has had any objections so far. The local population likes our guests (that might be you too!) a lot, and is very friendly. They really like it when you take pictures or videotape, especially their children. The same applies to the various temples, shrines and spiritual centers we pass along our route.
Don't forget to bring enough film or batteries.
Baggage during the tour?
Just take what you need, and no more. Excess bagage you can leave behind in our office during the tour.
Do you have kiddy seats?
We have seats for babies and toddlers: they have belts to ensure the baby/toddler sits securely, and sturdy foot plus back rests. For children a bit older we have seats on the back.
If you need a bicycle with a kiddy seat, mention it in the remarks when you book, so we can prepare them for you.
Please note: these bicycles do not quality for the full day tour!
