Description

Pingxi is a district in New Taipei City that is surrounded by a mountain range in northern Taiwan. It was a boom town in 1920's to 1980's due to the discovery of coal. Nowadays, Pingxi attracts many travelers looking to explore its rich heritage and natural scenery, as well as to see the spectacular sight during the Chinese Lantern Festival. The Pingxi railway was built for carrying coal during the old mining days. It has since been rebuilt to serve as daily transportation for its residents. We will take the Pingxi railway and stop by several stations where I will share the stories behind certain attractions at each stop. There are two options for this tour: Option A: Railway trip in Pingxi, which will cover the following highlights: - Wooden Railway Station, the only wooden station built in Taipei - Heritage of the coal mining industry - Spectacular view of the mountains and waterfalls - Japanese-style guest house for hosting important guests - Local snack such as Chicken Roll - Shifen village, home of the Sky Lantern Option B. Railway trip + Make your own Sky Latern Locals light the Sky Lantern to send their wishes for a better future to the sky. This custom has been practiced for over hundreds of years. Now, it has become a festival where hundreds of people launch their sky lanterns at the same time, lighting up the whole night sky in Pingxi. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to make your own Sky Lantern, including building its core structure, writing your wishes, and launching it into the sky. I will arrange for a professional craft teacher to teach you how to make the Sky Lantern and explain the origin of the custom. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have. Come enjoy the beautiful Pingxi scenery with me!
