This is a mainsteam Tokyo tour around some of the city's most famous highlights!
- Edo Castle: the residence of the Tokugawa shogun during the Edo period. After the Meiji restoration it became the Tokyo Imperial Palace.
- Meiji-jingu Shrine: the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji (1852-1912） and Empress Shoken are enshrined. The Meiji era is the period of Japanese modernization started.
- Harajuku Takeshita-dori, young fashion district, visit costume shops.
- Asakusa Senso-ji Temple: Tokyo’s oldest temple located in Shitamachi, old town where I live; we will explore the surrounding streets with a sense of the old local culture which links to Edo period and early Tokyo. There are many good local restaurants and interesting bars; a pleasant place to conclude the tour. The tour does not extend into the evening, but I will be available to make suggestions for where to eat your evening meal or I would join you.
