This refined and atmospheric restaurant opened in 1983 in what used to be a traditional sumo stable. It preserves the spirit of the sumo district Ryogoku and offers visitors the unique opportunity to dine surrounded by an interior which stimulates all senses. The highlight of the place is the sumo arena in the middle of the floor. You can imagine the sumo wrestlers battling with each other while you eat traditional Japanese dishes. Events and live performances are often held in the evenings.
The food itself is prepared with much care by top-class chefs. Only fresh ingredients are used and some of the best sea products are delivered directly to the restaurant from Tsukiji Fish Market.
For lunch you can have the a set menu with the popular local dish chanko-nabe. Chanko-nabe is the traditional hot-pot stew eaten in large quantities by sumo wrestlers. In particular this chanko-nabe uses plenty of seafood, chicken and fresh vegetables boiled in a special chicken-based broth. The set menu includes also sashimi (raw fish slices), pickled vegetables, rice and a dessert. This is a great choice for lunch after your stroll in Ryogoku area!
For dinner you can treat yourself with an exquisite set menu. It includes a rich chanko-nabe with some of the best sea products directly delivered from Tsukiji Fish Market. This is garnished with appetizers, sashimi slices, fried and roasted delicacies, pickled vegetables, rice or udon noodles and a dessert.
