Had a great tour with Sally – I was the only one there. We met at the train station at an easy to find location, despite the place being so busy. As for the tour itself she was really knowledgeable about the area and showed me a lot of secret, hidden spots. This includes the fantastic eel restaurant we went to afterwards, which I certainly would not have had the courage to walk into as it had no English signs. In addition to the guide fee one also needs to pay for all the drinks and food, so it was a pricy evening. But the food and conversation was phenomenal and definitely got my comfort level up for this area. <3
Sally was an amazing host, was punctual, very easy going and showed great interest. She was very knowledgeable about the areas we explored and was incredibly nice & accommodating. We got to see a whole host of things that had I been on my own, I never would have noticed.
All in all, it was great and highly recommend this tour with Sally.
A very interesting experience on unusual aspects of the Japanese culture
Sally is a very nice and experienced person which guided us along a fascinating tour among the hidden and true faces of kabuki-cho and golden gai. If you are tired of the usual and ordinary guided tours for the average tourists, if you prefer to directly feel the real social and cultural aspects of this peculiar portion of the city, Sally is the right choice!
Don't leave Tokyo without doing this tour!
If you're trying to experience Tokyo without a guide, you are surely missing out. This is a culture with many layers, most of it hidden from you, and particularly in this area nothing is as it seems.
I am not a tour person at all. I almost never book something like this. Fellow independent travelers, check your ego and book this -- you won't be disappointed.
Great Tour with a lot of Background! :)
It was a great experience! I am glad i had the tour with Sachiko since she explained so many interesting facts about the area and specifics to different kind of business. I could ask all i want and she knew a lot of background about the area :) Thanks a lot for this nice and informative evening :)
Very informative, fun, and overall great experience.
This was a fun, informative tour through the red light district. Sally guided me through where Golden Gai bars are and the best ways to see them. She also showed me where the best yakitori was across the street in "Piss Alley" and had a nice dinner together. Her recommendation of avoiding the pushy Nigerians around Kabukicho certainly came in handy! They were a nuisance later in the evening when I walked back solo and knew to avoid them as much as I could. Definitely recommend this!
After a few days in Kyoto we were surprised by the sheer volume of people in Tokyo. Sally (Sachiko) gave us a fantastic introduction to the bizarre yet awesome sights of Kabukicho and Golden Gai, culminating in a nice meal together. It's probably not a tour for kids tbh because it touches on the sex trade and is based around 'entertainment', but Sally is really kind, sweet and genuine that she'll look after you, whatever you want to get out of the visit. Thanks Sally.
A great way to discover Kabuchiko and the Golden Gai area. I also really enjoyed the dinner at the end of the tour.
A fun night out!
Sachiko is a truly amazing tour guide, both informative and extremely easy to get along with!
Although it was raining quite heavily on the evening of our tour, Sachiko's enthusiasm and cheerfulness created a fun atmosphere for our tour. She showed us around the Kabukicho Red Light district and pointed out/explained many interesting things that we wouldn't have known about without her.
Sachiko then brought us to an Izakaya where we were able to feast on many local delicacies (including some new meats!). Later, after many beers she then brought us to a Jail themed bar and helped us get seated and order the next round! Sachiko really went above and beyond to make sure we were all safe and happy.
Overall the tour was an amazing experience, where we got to meet great people and have a truly fun night out! Thank you so much Sachiko for the wonderful experience!
Learned lots about Shinjuku and Japanese culture!
Sally was a great guide, very knowledgeable about the Shinjuku and Golden Gai area and speaks very good English. She also had a very good, dry sense of humour which was fun. Her choice for an izakaya was very good and we got to try some foods we never would have on our own, including horse and whale sashimi! Definitely the most adventurous dishes we've tried while in Japan! The only constructive criticism comment I have is that the tour as described on the voyagin website isn't exactly what the tour turned out to be. The website description gives the impression that part of the tour is bar hopping in Golden Gai. That was not the case. We had a quick walk through Golden Gai but most of the tour was about the history and sex-trade related business of Shinjuku. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour but is wasn't really as advertised. You should change the tour description on the website.
