Kashiwaya in Kandaimae, Osaka, is a Michelin 3-star traditional Japanese restaurant run by Chef Hideaki Matsuo, who was awarded the bronze medal at the “4th Culinary Masters Awards” held by the Japan Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2013. Starting from 2010, Kashiwaya has been awarded with 3 stars continuously for 4 years.
Although you can reach Kashiwaya in less than 5-10 minutes by car from the central of Osaka, the restaurant is located in a quiet residential area and therefore you can relax in its elegant atmosphere. All the rooms are designed in the classic sukiya-zukuri style, which includes the definition of refined and well cultivated, and it refers to the enjoyment of the performed tea ceremony. In addition, when you step into the room, you will see a beautiful traditional Japanese garden and enjoy the view of the greenery.
The kaiseki (multi-dish) cuisine of Kashiwaya is seasonal and changes every month. Chef Matsuo incorporates modern interpretations in his cooking and you can enjoy a rich variety of flavors, aromas and textures in every single dish. The broth of “nimono-wan” comes from southern Hokkaido konbu seaweed which is carefully steeped overnight to draw out its original flavor. You can also enjoy the special seasonal sweets which perfectly match with Japanese green tea. Particularly, the “kasane” sweets are very delicious. Kasane is a bite-sized piece which is made from jellied sweet beans including ingredients such as azuki beans, black soy and sweet potato, flavored with miso, plum, raisins or many other different kind of things.
