Below is the itinerary for this relaxing tour to the countryside towns:
8:00 - Take the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo station to Sendai station, and then change to the local Senseki line to Hon-Shiogama station (the recommended train departs from Sendai at 10:17 and arrives at Hon-Shiogama at 10:45).
10:55 - Meet your guide and go to Urakasumi Sake Brewery where you will find an impressive old-style warehouse where some of Japan's best-quality sake is produced.
12:25 - 13:25 - Eat delicious sushi with fresh seafood at Sushi Tetsu, one of Shiogama's many sushi restaurants.
13:35 - 14:25 - Visit the impressive Shiogama Shrine and learn more about the history and legends of the fishermen town.
15:00 - 15:50 - Ride a scenic sightseeing boat from Shiogama to Matsushima and see many of the famous pine-tree islands along the way. The bay with hundreds of pine islands is considered to be one of Japan's three most scenic views.
16:15 - Check in at Hotel Matsushima Onsen Ichinobo, which will impress you with its luxurious interior and an open-air hot spring pool overlooking the ocean.
9:00 - Get picked up from the hotel and go to the Matsushima seaside area to explore the town's historical wonders on foot: the gorgeous temples Zuiganji and Entsuin, which have attractive Japanese-style gardens, the Buddhist relic Godaido Hall, the tea house Kanrantei, and much more! Enjoy hands-on activities and eat fresh seafood for lunch.
16:21 - Go to Matsushima-Kaigan station where the tour ends. Recommended return trip to Tokyo: take the local train departing at 16:21 from Matsushima-Kaigan station and arrive at Sendai station at 16:49. Then take the Shinkansen bullet train at 17:09 and arrive at Tokyo station at 18:52.
