I, known as the Last Samurai, am the eldest licensed English speaking tour guide in Japan. I'm also the best Samurai sword entertainer. I've been in the tour guide business for 51 years. The Mayor nominated me as the “Distinguished Master of Kyoto Hospitality” in 2011.
I built up my own only-in-the-world show, “Samurai Nippon Show” in 1977. In 14 years, 130,000 guests attended the show and 50 television programs reported on it, including the US's David Letterman Show and Regis Philbin Morning Show.
My swordsmanship was featured in the Guinness World Records and two of my US students were featured in the Guinness Book in 2005 and 2009.

I cannot recommend this show enough. I had read a few comments about the host, Samurai Joe before deciding to go, but still didn't know what to really expect.
I headed over to the place and there Samurai Joe was, just chilling before the show, I got to sit down with him and have a chat before he had to go and set up the stage. As it turns out, he had stopped doing the 'evening samurai show' 3 years ago but wanted to start it up again, and though I was the only attendee, he had agreed to go ahead and start it that night because he happened to be in Kyoto that day. Not only was I happy about this, I was extremely honored and grateful. A web blogger had attended to take photos to advertise the show so I got to know her as well.
The show itself was BRILLIANT. Samurai Joe is a legend and everything was so fun to watch. At one point I had to participate though by holding a bamboo stem so he could cut it in half. I was a bit of a scaredy cat but did it anyway and was so impressed with his skills.
I don't want to reveal too much about everything else....seriously...BOOK his show if you're in Kyoto! you have to meet this guy.
I got to sit down with him again at the end of the show for a drink. So much chatting, laughter and joy followed before it was time to leave and say goodbye.
I'll say it again...book his show! you won't regret it :D
