Woven on takabata looms since they were introduced from China over 1200 years ago, silk mon orimoro (design figures incorporated into the weave, itself), is exquisite, luminous, luxurious and multi-colored. The high precision and skill level required to weave this fabric, the resulting extraordinary beauty and quality demands that it be distinguished from ordinary brocade by giving it a distinctive name, Nishiki. In the Japanese language, the idiographic character used for Nishiki is a combination of the symbol for woven cloth combined with the symbol for gold, implying that the value of Nishiki is equal to that of money. In this tour, you will be visiting a 123 year textile weaving company in Kyoto that started their business in 1894. This tour is guided by the 3rd generate president who's grandfather was the founder of the company. The company is located in a traditional Japanese house in the Nishijin area which is world famous for textile weaving. You will be able to see grand pieces of work done by weaving, and all the replicas of old weaving machines used to produce textile pieces in ancient times. Some of the machines are also associated to the Shinto God, who is prohibited to be taken pictures of. You will also get a hands-on experience to work with one of the weaving machines to produce your very own textile piece for you to take home as souvenir.
