You will be visiting Nijo Castle, a castle built by Tokugawa Ieyasu as his residence in Kyoto in 1603. Nijo Castle is a National Treasure of Japan, with 3,300 square meters floor area and 33 rooms. The castle is filled with the essence of grand and gorgeous Momoyama culture, including drawings on fusuma and sculptures by Kano Tanyu. The garden of the castle was designed by Kobori Enshu, a skillful garden architect.
You will also be visiting Ryoanji Temple, which is a temple of Rinzai Myoshinji Sect. It was also originally a villa of Tokudaiji Saneyoshi, and in 1450 (approximately 565 years ago), Katsumoto Hosokawa inherited the place and established the property.
Its Karesansui garden, with 15 stones placed on white sand, which describes a landscape of mountains and water using only stones and sand without ponds, etc., is globally famous. It was designated as the World Heritage Site in December 1994.
