Description

Kōdō (香道, "Way of Incense") is the Japanese art of appreciating incense, and involves using incense within a structure of codified conduct. It is one of the 3 major traditional culture of Japan, along side with tea ceremony and calligraphy art. In Kyoto, an ancient city filled with thousands of shrines and temples, incense has developed a deep cultural meaning with its long history. In this experience, participants will learn about the ceremonial practice of Kōdō, different fragrance from incense, the way to hold the incense, and how to "read" different fragrance. This is also a good way to learn about the Higashiyama (east mountain) culture in Kyoto. Open up your sense of smell and join us to learn about "Way of Incense"!
