Hi I am Shohei.
I had experiences of living in Australia and Singapore, and of travelling to countries in US, UK and several countries from South America, Middle East and Asia, and from these experiences, I never doubted that quality of food in Japan is the best.
This is why I started offering cooking class in this traditional town, Kyoto.
Our staff are all local, friendly and knowledge about foods.
Please join our class if you want to make friends in Kyoto having fun with cooking Japanese local cuisine.

An excellent introduction to Japanese food and culture
We wanted a day to relax and learn how to make Japanese food after too many temples and palaces. The cooking school was in a traditional Japanese house. There were nine people taking the izakaya cooking class that day. We had three instructors and they were very patient and informative. We learned to cook 7 dishes in 3 hours. All of the ingredients and cooking techniques were explained thoroughly. Everything we prepared was fun and delicious. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to learn more about Japanese food and culture.
Fantastic acitivity and delicious food!
We thoroughly enjoyed this! The food was great, the teachers were lovely and it was such a great way to learn about japanese cuisine!
Great way to learn about Japanese cooking while making new friends
The hostess was very kind and extremely gracious. She welcomed me into the cooking studio and chatted with me for a while before the other "students" showed up. This was the morning session and what was supposed to be a group of four turned into a group of three making bento boxes that was very fun indeed! The food was delicious and our hostess' english was impeccable. While we weren't making word-class food, it was amazing to me how few ingredients could be combined so well into the great flavors of the dishes we made. The highlight of the experience though was our gracious hostess and the fantastic chatting that would happen over the making of the meal.
Would highly recommend!
We made chawanmushi, gyoza, simmered beef and more. It was really interesting to see how to make our own dashi, and then put it into all the dishes! Keiko and Shohei were fantastic hosts - they explained all the steps clearly and also talked about Japan and their lives. Finally, the location was very convenient to our hotel (just a short walk away). Couldn't have asked for a better cooking experience! ^^
The crowning gem of our trip - a real cultural experience!
I am *so* wonderfully glad that we decided on the cooking class! We participated in the morning class and it was absolutely excellent; we worked in teams of two to prepare a delicious (and filling!) bento box.
The instructors were so very kind and were very knowledgeable about all the ingredients used. The kitchen facilities were also excellent (each team of two had its own hot plate and materials), and assistant instructors were present to watch and help with more tricky steps if we needed it.
Overall I felt that it gave us a really wonderful little glimpse into the world of Japanese cuisine and I am now so excited to go home and try to recreate some of what we made!
An incredibly meaningful day spent in Kyoto
There's nothing better than taking a break from all the sight-seeing through a full-day cooking lesson with locals. My teachers were both incredibly generous with their knowledge, hospitality and patience. The lessons are easy to follow and greatly satisfying. I would highly recommend this to culinary novices and experts alike. Also, it's important to attend the lessons on an empty stomach because there will be lots of eating to do!
Really, really enjoyed this class. It was very friendly and welcoming. I was able to make a delicious bento box even though I'm a complete novice at cooking. We had a map and found the place no problems. Would highly recommend !
Very fun and educational experience. We made a delicious bento box that we then got to enjoy for lunch. In doing so, we learned a lot about the basic ingredients and cooking methods that make up many japanese dishes and how they could be combined in different ways to come up with unique flavours. Very enjoyable.
I liked that the menu incorporated the dashi stock in all the dishes. It shows the different ways to use the dashi stock. My favorite part of the experience was learning about the different ingredients that I was unfamiliar with. I liked that the host was able to answer all my questions. She was very knowledgable. She also very nice and friendly. The food was delicious! I'm happy I know how to make them.
