Opened in 1977, Kawachi Wisteria (Fuji) Garden has 22 kinds of wisteria flowers together with exciting ways to display them, such as wisteria trellises, the wisteria dome, the wisteria tunnel, and a large wisteria tree. There is also a belvedere from which you are able to look down on the wisteria trellises. In recent years the garden received international attention by being featured as one of the most beautiful spots in Japan by foreign media.
This garden is open every day from mid-April to mid-May, but the highlight of the wisteria blossoming is expected between April 22 and May 7. During this period entry is only allowed by obtaining a pre-paid ticket in advance, and then paying additional 500 JPY or 1000 JPY at the door depending on the daily changing price (due to flower blooming condition).
IMPORTANT: Note that the entrance fee to be paid on the door changes from 500 JPY to 1000 JPY based on the day during the wisteria blooming season. The price of this activity includes only the compulsory pre-paid ticket for the Kawachi Wisteria Garden. Please pay the difference with the actual price on the day in cash when you arrive at the park. Note that you CANNOT enter during the high season without a pre-paid ticket bought in advance.
Access: From Fukuoka city, take the bullet train to Kokura Station and change to a local train for Yahata Station. From Yahata Station you can take a shuttle bus to the Kawachi Wisteria Garden (operates once per hour only during the high season) or taxi for about 20-30 minutes. There is also a free shuttle bus going to the nearby hot spring facility "Ajisai no Yu" located next to the garden, but you can only ride it if you enter the hot spring or have lunch at the facility (not as free transportation only).
