My full name is Pande Putu Sriningsih, but you can call me Sri! I was born in 1972 in a small village adjoining the village of Beng in Gianyar regency and studied tourism in college. Because I've been welcoming visitors to Bali for many years through my work in various hotels, I am very motivated to help visitors not merely visit Bali physically, but instead also experience the spirit of the island. As such, I've created a group of local enthusiasts to help others experience Bali's rich spiritual history and have the experience of a lifetime in our local dress.

A unique experience and souvenir to bring home
My sister and I had a wonderful time with Sri in April 2017. She and her husband Rai picked us up and we went and picked out fabric for our outfit. Next to the trailer . 5 days later we were picked up and taken by Sri to get our hair and makeup done before putting on our new lovely outfits. We then went to the water temple were before entering Rai and Sri explained the process we were about to do for the offering we would be participating in. It was a wonderful experience and we felt very fortunate to have participated in this holy experience. This was a unique and special memory to bring home and would encourage others to do this too. Thanks Sri
A really wonderful and unforgettable experience!
I really loved this entire experience. The hosts are a husband and wife team named Sri and Rai, who besides making me feel like Balinese Barbie for a day, welcomed me into their culture with completely open arms. So many tours in Bali can easily feel very commercial, but my entire experience with Sri felt like visiting an old friend.
Rai and Sri picked me up at my hotel and took me to choose fabrics for the kebaya. They tailored it exactly to my liking: color, design, everything. The fitting was quick and professional. They were incredibly patient and explained everything I asked and offered suggestions on everything. We ended up picking a cobalt blue color with a red sarong. In just two or so days the entire dress was finished and ready to wear!
Perhaps the best part of the experience for me was the couples' warmth toward me. As a solo traveller it is easy to feel isolated but they showed me around the area, explained their customs to me, and even introduced me to their family. They treated me to a nice lunch of suckling pig and bali coffee! They took me to a temple and made an offering so that I could go inside with the priests like a real local. They sat by my side as we presented the offering together, I felt incredibly honoured to be treated like a welcome guest more than just a customer.
Rai took his time creating the picture that was just right, I appreciate it so much. Despite the day being long and hot, they always kept big smiles on their faces and I felt that they were enjoying their time as much as I was. They really went above and beyond.
It was such a lovely experience. Besides having a beautiful new dress I feel that I made some great friends! When I come back next year, I will certainly do this again!
What an absolutely fantastic experience, highly recommend ! Nothing was too much trouble.
WOW! This experience was an unexpected highlight of my trip to Bali and I'd recommend it to all the ladies out there looking for a unique shopping experience with an amazing souvenir to take home after!
Just a note to everyone: you get to tell the tailor what kind of design you'd like, so I would recommend doing some research on kebayas and maybe saving some photos before you meet Sri so you can better articular the style you would like (the possibilities are endless!!!)
Because I wasn't sure what l I wanted, I actually ended up going to 3 different places before I could decide on the combination of colours and materials I wanted for the top and bottom of my kebaya...
I have to apologise to Sri because I definitely wasn't the world's easiest customer, but she was always gracious in giving me feedback about my choices and was super patient despite my hesitations, so I really appreciated that.
I eventually decided to go with a traditional look (using a red ikat on the bottom and white lace on the top), and now that I got my new kebaya delivered to me, I have to say I am SO glad I chose to take the leap of faith and try this out!!! I'm going to wear it as formal wear when I get home and for tomorrow's Galungan celebrations! :) Who needs chain stores when these tailors can make outfits just for me? ;)
Thanks again to Sri for her kindness and her husband Rai who patiently followed us around and even led me to some delicious suckling pig after I got hungry from shopping.
Last tip: start your experience earlier in the day because many of the kebaya shops and markets close around 5pm. If you go early in the morning, you still have options if you don't find anything you like right away...
