Hello! My name is Gusti Ayu and I am a Balinese woman with a dream to offer people the chance to sample the extraordinary craft culture of the native Balinese. I began polishing the silver jewelry my Father created when I was 10 years old, just like my brothers before me. Over the years, I went from being a silver jewelry maker to a teacher offering silver classes to visitors to Bali.
Now, in my own gallery in Ubud, I offer people the opportunity to experience all of the major crafts found in Bali- silver jewelry making, wood and stone carving, batik, classic Balinese painting, ceremonial offerings (temple offerings), Balinese dance, fruit carving, lontar weaving, kite making, puppet making- I hope I remember them all!

Me and my husband decided to do this whilst on our break in Ubud, the experience included transportation which was a bonus. Not knowing what to expect we took the plunge. We both absolutely loved the experience, which took us to a lovely workshop on the outskirts of Ubud overlooking rice fields. The experience was extremely well organised, every little detail and it was nice that to be involved and very hands on. We were also provided with drinks and snacks whilst we worked which was nice. We also got our masterpiece we had made to take home! to treasure forever!
I had a lovely time making a silver pendant. The host was very helpful with suggestions and with the more fiddly aspects of the design I chose.
The studio is set in the middle of a rice field so it was a lovely setting away from the crowds of Ubud.
I enjoyed the relaxed space and learning about the process of making jewellery. It was fun and relaxing and lovely to take something crafted by my own hands.
Good peaceful experience in a house in an open field. My son and I made pieces for each other and the host was nice and made us Balinese snacks. Good experience and we have jewelry to take home.
Ayu was patient and encouraging during the silver jewelry making process. She gave many creative suggestions when we ran out of ideas. We didn't get to participate in the soldering process because they used the traditional method of soldering which was tiring and a little dangerous if you weren't careful. Ayu still let us participate in the other safer processes such as cutting, moulding, and polishing the silver.
This is a nice little extra experience to my stay in Ubud. Ayu is patient and works with you ti ensure you design something functional and beautiful.
Just be sure that, if you use their transport, you have time to rest and enjoy their shop -- things work on Bali time here.
I had the most wonderful experience making a silver pendant.
Made was a fabulous teacher, friendly and very talented. It was a safe atmosphere, nice food and an all round excellent experience.
Thank you Made, I will definitely be back and will recommend you to all my friends. :)
