    Helpful and enthusiastic guides.

There were 4 of us for this hike, and our guide, Ketut, was extremely helpful and enthusiastic, especially when the hike got tough for us amateurs. He was extremely patient with us and encouraged us to take our time and was very helpful with picking out the easiest path for us. All round great experience, and 100% worth the effort (and almost tears). The view was spectacular and a spectacular guide just elevated the experience. 10/10.

    Incredible experience

It was an incredible experience but would not recommend for low fitness. Need at least a moderate level of fitness for this trip and at the very least sneakers. However the tour guides were lovely, spoke good english and helped anyone who was struggling along the way. We followed the hike with the hot springs and it was an absolutely perfect way to relax your muscles after such a hike. Cocktails in the pool at the hot springs just completed the experience! Would absolutely recommend in a heartbeat to those with good fitness!

    Awesome experience!

We had a blast climbing Mt Batur! I'm really glad I wore my hiking boots because having shoes with good grip makes the climbing easier for the rocky parts. The guides were super super nice and super helpful.

The breakfast is good and you see monkeys on the way down and they're cute.

The early wake up, the challenge, the fun!

I had a brilliant time doing this trek. I booked it as a solo traveller and was a little nervous initially about whether I'd be able to do it, etc, but from the outset got to hang out with some really nice people and the tour guides were excellent at making sure everyone had a smaller group to do the climb with. I'm not going to lie, it was challenging, but I found it easier than expected on the way up. I think you do need to have a reasonably good level of fitness and flexibility but only if you want to race to the top like I did. Otherwise, if you need more time, the guides will ensure that they wait for you and help you to reach the top (or to get down, which felt a lot steeper as it was in the daylight!). I just wore trainers but they could have done with more grip, like hiking/walking shoes and ankle support. The view from the top is outstanding and I loved the hot chocolate, eggs, bread and fruit to recharge us for breakfast (but bring some money for the hot chocolate!). They supply water and torches but bring some loo roll if you're a girl and might need a wee... I also only needed a light jacket with me (which I didn't even end up wearing) but check the weather before you go. I'd definitely do this climb again with this tour supplier!

Thoroughly enjoyable, challenging hike with so much to see.

The experience was fantastic, even though it was too cloudy to see the sunrise, there was so much else to see and experience. The hosts were so kind, especially as I messed up the booking with my friends making so many changes, but they accommodated all, even organising an emergency late booking to suit us. Thank you, and I'd do it again!

    Excellent Experience

Great experience and was worth the 1am wake up time. You get picked up from your hotel/resort and they drive you to the base. They serve tea/coffee and take you up in small groups of about 8. This requires good fitness and I struggled up the steep climb. The trek up the mountain takes about 2 hours. They provide torches. Bring your own headlamp if you have one. Hiking shoes and poles are recommended if you have them. They provide one bottle of water but bring 500mL especially on hot days. You need to bring a jumper as it is cold at the peak. I recommend bringing granola bars as you might feel hungry along the way. They provide volcano eggs boiled with the volcano heat along with bread and fruit. Bring cash if you want to buy soft drink, water and hot drinks (coffee, tea and milk). The trek down takes about 1 hour 20 mins but it is still challenging because it is quite steep.

    Tough hike but worth it

The hike was a tough one, but the view at the top was amazing, I reccomend wearing hiking shoes, the trail was really slippery.

Exhausting hike, but well worth the view.

Overall this activity was well organized and affordable, which was just what we were looking for. Having our own guide for our group of 3 was invaluable as it allowed us to go at our own pace (which turned out to be quite fast, if not a bit sweaty). The hike itself was challenging, but we muscled our way through it and were rewarded with a spectacular view of the sunrise. Our guide was friendly and the breakfast provided at the top was just what we needed before getting ready for our descent and a quick stop off to visit some monkeys. Despite the extremely early wake-up, this was the highlight of the trip for me.

    Bucket list experience

Really enjoyed our trip, there was a big group of us set off at once with several guides... we were quicker than most so one of the guides split off from the main group and took us by ourselves at our own pace and answered all our questions and taught us about the volcano. We were picked up and delivered back to our hotel on time by lovely chatty drivers. Would definitely recommend!

    Must do!

This trek was awesome!! Would do it again, for sure and despite what your initials thoughts are, it's worth the 2 am wake up. The 2 guides we had for a group of 6 (32 in total) were so thoughtful and nice. I wouldn't exactly say this is the pass less travelled because our group of 32 was quite big. We were luckily in a group of people that matched our fitness but because they set off the other groups before us we were 10 minutes behind when the first of the sunrise started but there were groups behind us so not sure if they made it in time. So thoroughly enjoyed this trek.. We are quite fit so found this to be pretty easy for hiking standards but worth it none the less.
