My name is Sri Handayani, but you can call me Maria. I was born in central Java but came to Bali in 2003. I used to work in Jakarta and Bali as a massage therapist, but started teaching cooking in 2009 in my kitchen, because I saw that many foreigners loved Indonesian food and wanted to teach them how to make it themselves, so they can enjoy it even when they return home. Cooking for me is a way to share my heritage and a means for my guests to show their friends Bali's culinary treasures. Quality is my first priority, so I'd love to have you taste my delicious dishes! :)

My husband and I knew that we wanted to do a Bali cooking class but most of the classes have set menus to cook where there was always something I didn't particularly like or want to learn. Maria give's you a choice of what you would like to learn making sure the experience is one you want. Maria and her Sister were very friendly and helpful people. My husband started feeling sick when we were there (he had not eaten anything so was definitely nothing from Maria's class) and Maria went out of her way to help him feel better.
The only note I would say is although some of it is hands on, Maria shows you how to do a lot of things by doing them herself where as I have done another course in Gilis where you do it all yourself. This may be due to time constraints.
I would definitely recommend experiencing Maria's class!
Definately a feast!!!
Me and my boyfriend attended Maria's cooking class in August 2016! She was a lovely and very talented lady .. We cooked 5 dishes plus more!! The portions were too much and she offered that we could take it all home with us! Everything we cooked was amazing! Tasting and looking! We booked prior to coming to Bali as this class can fill up quickly and she works most days due to high demand! Defiantly would recommend!
Did`nt enjoy, hard to understand and the food was terrible
hard to reccomend
What a wonderful Day
We had a great day with Maria. It is actually in her own home. First she picked us up from our hotel then she took us to the local food market where she picked ingredients for the food that we wanted to cook from the recipes she gave us. She gives you bottles of water when she takes you to her home and you actually help to prepare and cook the foods. The experience for us started at 9 and finished about 3 as she does not rush you. We had a small breakfast at 8am in the hotel as the first lot of food to eat starts about 11am. Don't book anything after the cooking as the finish time can vary. It's a shame if you have to go before tasting what you have cooked. The end product is better than any Indonesian food I've ever tasted. The smell of the food when your cooking it is divine. Making the pastes to cook with can be quite hard with the pestle and mortar but Mara takes over when your tired. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. Her house is spotless clean and she makes you feel very welcome. Mara advises to book a couple of days before the end of your holiday as she only likes small groups and she gets fully booked sometimes. I think this was value for money not only for the experience but also for the food you get to eat when you finished which is as fresh as you are going to get. Ask to try the freshly ground coconut it is truly unbelievable !! Thank you Mara for a wonderful day 😀😀
Maria had been in a road accident which resulted in a trip to the hospital with concussion, black eye and multiple abrasions. We had a fantastic day and learnt lots . Maria was still in pain but didn't want to disappoint us by cancelling. Big thank you xx
Maria was fantastic and very gracious with her time and knowledge. She had been involved in a road accident that had resulted in her going to hospital but didn't cancel the class because she didn't want to disappoint
She was still sore and at times a little dizzy but she soldiered on and we were very grateful
A wonderful experience and would highly recommend
Many thanks xx
Delicious fun authentic
I had a true authentic experience. Reccand calling her directly because other wise she has to pay the front desk...help a local out. Food was delicious! Maria's a sweet heart and pays attention to cleaning things.
great cooking class, however allowing a more hands on approach would be preferable
We did this class Feb 2016 with Maria and 4 other people from around the world. The class was very good and worth every penny! Maria is lovely and speaks very good English and knows a lot of things of what other countries may call the ingredients which was very helpful. A Booklet with many different recipes was given to us so we are able to make at home. My personal fav was the Chicken Rendang! YUM!! Maria was also helpful in giving us places to go etc. We were very happy that we chose to do this class. Was an awesome experience. xx to Maria what a beautiful lady. Only thing I would change is maybe having 4 people to a class so you can participate more.
Great cooking class with Maria!
We had a great cooking class with Maria last week! Cooked many different dishes, learned about the methods and the ingredients, and ate a delicious meal with all the different foods at the end! Maria is a great teacher and a very nice person! I definitely recommend this class :-)
