Since 2012, Green Kitchen has been showcasing the beauty of Sidemen and the magic of Indonesian cooking. Our head chef Nyoman is a passionate cook who discovered his love for food while living in Japan and working for an Indonesian restaurant.
After returning from Japan, he setup Green Kitchen in his hometown of Sidemen in East Bali to showcase its picturesque allure and authentic Indonesian food. Since then, hundreds of guests have taken part in our cooking class described the "best food they've had in Bali" and nothing short of magical.

Had such a great day learning to cook and experience real Balinese culture. Food was amazing, as was the scenery!!
Really enjoyed seeing the countryside and learning about the food. It was fun cooking in the traditional ways and all of the dishes were REALLY delicious.
A taste of Bali
This cooking class was fantastic! It was well thought out and organised and the day was so much fun. We started at the markets to become familiar with the ingredients, headed to the hosts' garden where we picked fresh produce and then started cooking. We all shared responsibilities so it was nice and relaxed and the use of the large pestle and mortar provided good entertainment! The recipes were easy to follow and the result was some amazingly flavoursome - highly recommend this class :)
Amazing scenery and food
My three friends and i had a great day at sideman. We learnt a lot about the balinese way of life and culture and how to get maximum flavour and a large variety of dishes from very few but very fresh ingredients...who knew you could do so much with a coconut! As for the food, it was amazing.
The best thing we had done
Anyone travelling to Bali, you have to put time aside for this. It's not just a cooking class, it's an amazing experience. Going to a place where no tourists exist, seeing inside their homes, walking through the rice paddies (wear boots! Muddy and slippery) and picking some hear a and vegetables. Then walking up to a kitchen in the forest with spectacular views. The food was the best you will ever have tasted in Bali. If you want to try amazing food, forget a restaurant, this place is a place to see!!!
Breathtaking Cultural and Culinary Experience!
This was a wonderful experience and the location in area of Sideman made it more delightful with the mountains and lush green fields.
It was very lovely to meet Jero and his family and to learn about the many vegetables and spices that are found on the farm. He is very knowledgeable about farming and cooking and I learned a lot from him!
Learning to make a Balinese meal from scratch was very interesting and a lot of hard work but very rewarding and delicious!
I recommend anyone going to Bali to try this cooking class as it was one of the most memorable experiences I had while in Bali!
Delicious food and good company!
This cooking class was amazing! The tour of the markets and the walk through the rice fields were unforgettable. The cooking itself was an experience I will never forget! The food was delicious and I have been cooking these recipes since being back at home. I would highly recommend this cooking class if you want to cook and eat delicious Balinese food, whilst also gaining insight into the way the food is sourced.
A wonderful FULL day of real Bali life (and food!)
We had a wonderful time at the Green Kitchen Bali cooking class. We were picked up from our villa promptly (in Canggu) and driven up to KlangKang market (amazing!) and on to our host's home. It was really great to see how the Balinese live in the villages (instead of sticking to the tourist route) and everyone was so kind and lovely. We walked through the rice paddies (muddy but awesome!), picked veggies and then walked on to the kitchen to learn how to cook a MULTITUDE of Balinese dishes.
I loved this experience SO MUCH and can not wait to cook delicious Balinese food at home. So glad we did this and got a taste of the real Bali. I totally recommend it. (We did the non vegetarian option which included chicken curry, tuna satay, pork + jackfruit soup, raw sambal, tomato sambal, tempeh in sweet sauce and MORE!)
Tips: bring comfy shoes for the walk, water for the drive there and back, take lots of photos at the market, surrender to the experience and definitely try the GINGER TEA and the ROSELLA TEA!
This is a wonderful thing to do if you are in danger of spending your Bali trip eating at westernised restaurants and staying in your comfort zone. It's an authentic experience AND you are putting money into a small village economy (which is SO important when travelling to places like Bali!)
