The Training Trip is perfectly suited for persons who have always dreamed about getting to know elephants, but who also want to experience other wonderful adventures in Thailand. Within just two days you will get to know the most important aspects of elephant keeping in Thailand and you will also learn how to ride your own grey giant along the mountain trails of Northern Thailand.
Asia's 'elephant-culture' is thousands of years old. When the logging ban was introduced in Thailand most elephants became unemployed overnight. Tourism is the only alternative for the people of northern Thailand to continue working with these magnificent animals in order to ensure this giant's survival, as well as an income for their owners.
Our approach is to bring you closer to these grey giants and Thailand's culture of elephant keeping. Sitting in the neck of the majestic creatures you will learn how to ride and control your elephant while riding through the beautiful mountains of northern Thailand, or having a bath together in the jungle's bath tub. Along the way you will learn about Thailand's local hill tribe life and its thousands of years old culture.
During your stay you will be guided by Bodo Jens Förster and his team of European and Asian employees. We very much rely on this concept since elephants are only happy if they can enjoy a familiar social structure. Every elephant is taken care of by a qualified Mahout, who will guide you during your stay.
- You will stay in our lodge "White House" or in one of the bungalows, from which we start our trips. A covered dining area for the lunch breaks has been built, the food will be delivered and cooked on site by our Thai chefs. Drinking water is provided. A small sanitary block has also been built in every camp.
We recommend clothes which can get dirty. Some shirts, comfortable and resilient trousers, plus sandals for trekking have proven suitable. In addition to shirts, we offer Mahout-trousers, which are especially designed for the purpose of elephant riding.
